Marjorie French in Olive’s Toy Car

Date:
c.1906

Description:

Marjorie Penrose French, Olive's childhood friend, was the daughter of James Allan French, the local Church of Ireland Canon. She lived at Glebe House, Strokestown with her parents, brother Francis, sisters Elsie and Ethel and servant Mary (click here for link to census page). In the 1911 census we find Marjorie living as a border at her school, Alexandra College, on Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, you can read the census entry here. Marjorie is mentioned elsewhere in the learning zone, as Olive includes Marjorie in her 'will'. Marjorie is to get the Olive's tea service, and both Marjorie and Elsie her sister are to inherit Olive's dolls, her best games, her 'little bits of jewellery' and teddy! Marjorie and Olive remained friends for life, her granddaugher recently returned some of Olive's books to Strokestown Park House.
