9th Queens Royal Lancers at Strokestown

When the house was being used as a garrison tin hoardings were added to the curved corridor linking the main block to the south wing. Since the house was used for the housing and interrogation of prisoners this hoarding was a defensive measure to prevent sniper fire. In the summer of 1920 the East Yorkshire Regiment were stationed at the house, and it was during this summer that Olive Pakenham Mahon met Major Stuart Hales of that regiment.
