The State of Roscommon

The 'State of Roscommon' as described in an editorial in Roscommon Journal. This piece was  reprinted in the The Times (of London) on the 10 July 1847. This is clearly not the first time that Major Denis Mahon's eviction policy had been criticized in the Roscommon Journal. In a letter to John Ross Mahon, written on the 3rd January 1847 he states "as to any remarks the Roscommon Journal might make, I heed them not, we are not doing any tyrannical or cruel act" (you can find this letter in the Primary Resources).
